Having some flatulence with little or no odour is a normal part of human digestion. If you experience smelly gas, your digestive system is out-of-whack. There are several reasons why this may happen, such as eating the wrong foods, eating too much and not defecating enough. Prescription drugs may cause bloating and smelly gas. There are several ways to get rid of smelly flatulence.
Keep a daily diary to track the foods you eat to find out if certain foods result in smelly flatulence. Foods such as beans, cabbage, onions, cauliflower, whole wheat flour and broccoli commonly cause gas in the digestive tract. Greasy foods are notorious for smelly flatulence because your bodywork harder to digest them.
Eliminate or cut back on eating problem foods from your daily diet. Pay attention to the amount of sugars and carbohydrates you eat, as these contribute to smelly flatulence, especially when eaten in high amounts.
Eat several small meals a day instead of three large meals. It will be easier for your body to digest the food. If you eat too much at one sitting, the food may not get properly digested. The undigested food then enters your intestines and creates smelly flatulence.

Talk to your doctor about prescription medications. Drugs such as Verapamil, Actonel, Glucophage, Evista, Toprol and Crestor all cause constipation and smelly flatulence. Don't just stop taking any medications you suspect are disrupting your digestive system. Consult with your doctor to find out if there are alternatives.
