Find a Twitter App for iPhone

With so many Twitter apps available for iPhone and iPod Touch, how do you find the perfect one for you? I've narrowed your search down to the most popular and feature-rich choices. Some are free; some will cost you a small amount. iPhone and iPod Touch apps are available in the iTunes App Store.

Most Twitter apps do the basics, but some offer features such as video tweeting, location-based searches and landscape view of the keyboard. Pick your app based on the features you need. Here are some options.

How to Find a Free Twitter App

  1. Step 1

Echofon (formerly named TwitterFon) allows you to view your friends list, reply and create favorites. You can upload photos, and if your phone supports video, tweet video. Echofon has additional features you may want to check out.

  2. Step 2

Twitterific comes in a free version. You can pay for an ad-free version as well. With Twitterific you can manage multiple accounts, do searches and see trends. It allows retweeting and direct messaging. You can check the full feature list at the iTunes App Store.

  3. Step 3

Tweetdeck is extremely popular with Windows users as a computer app, and it has a similar feature-rich app for iPhone and iPod touch. You can create groups (one of Tweetdeck's most popular features), manage multiple accounts, share photos and do several more Twitter chores.

  4. How to Find a Paid Twitter App

  5. Step 1

Tweetie has garnered excellent reviews and won some prizes for design. It will work with multiple accounts, retweets, and lets you follow, unfollow and block people. You can upload photos to TwitPic, see trends and do searches. Tweetie lets you turn the keyboard to landscape view. If you buy, be sure you are buying Tweetie 2, which has new features and is not an automatic upgrade from Tweetie.

  6. Step 2

Twitterville costs less than Tweetie. You can retweet, upload photos, use URL shortening, see user profiles, and more, with Twitterville.

  7. Step 3

Twitter Pro is the least expensive of the paid apps, but it has plenty of features. It allows photo uploading, viewing profiles and adding or removing followers, retweeting, and more.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are looking for a particular feature, such as a location-based search, you can start at the iTunes main page for social networking tools to compare even more Twitter apps.
