Your BMW's keyless entry fob is such a convenience that you might take it for granted until the day it no longer works. After pushing the buttons on the fob several times to no avail, you fumble with your keys, attempting to place it in the door lock on a dark, rainy night, finally realising just how important the key fob actually is. Often, the problem with the key fob is simply a dead battery, which is easily fixed and something you can do yourself to get your fob back in working order.

Instructions

  1. 1

Purchase a new battery at an auto parts store or a BMW service department.

Remove the battery cover from your key fob, which is located on the back of the fob. All you have to do is slide it off by pushing it away from the top of the key fob. It should come right off.

  2. 2

Take the dead battery out of the key fob and replace it with the new battery. Ensure that you've correctly inserted the battery, with the positive side of the battery looking up.

  3. 3

Replace the key fob's battery cover by sliding it back on the fob. Test your key fob to ensure that it works properly.
