Tempered glass provides an attractive alternative to clear glass when used as a table top. A scratch from a mishap can be made in tempered glass just as easily as on any other glass table. You can repair the scratch rather than having to replace the table top. A few spoilers from a hardware store will be needed, including a orbital sander rental if you do not own one.

  3. 3

Rub the scratch with the edge of a soft cloth in a circular motion for a half minute. Apply more toothpaste to the scratch in the same manner as was just done. Rub the scratch with the edge of a soft cloth in the same manner as was done before.

  4. 4

Place the buffing pad on the orbital sander. Tighten the screw to keep the buffing pad in position on the end of the sander. Plug the sander into a wall socket for power.

  5. 5

Apply a dab of jeweller's rouge on the end of a cotton swab. Place the moistened end of the swab against the left edge of the scratch. Press down on the swab while running it across the length of the scratch.

  6. 6

Select a "low" setting on the orbital sander. Turn it on. Place the buffing pad at the end of the sander against the scratch on the glass. Move the sander back and forth across the length of the scratch slowly.

  7. 7

Pull the sander away from the table top after a half minute has passed and inspect the glass to see if the scratch is now no longer visible. Repeat the procedure with the orbital sander if the scratch is still visible.

  8. 8

Spray the tempered glass table top with glass cleaner. Wipe the glass with a soft cloth. Let the table top dry for an hour before using it.
