Glitz, glamour and style take central stage at a Hollywood-themed party. Use fancy decorations, bold colours and appropriate lighting to create an air of drama the minute partygoers walk through the entrance. Although commercial props and decorations for this common theme are easily available in crafts stores, using your creativity allows you to decorate the venue inexpensively and lend your personal touch to the theme. Go all in by hiring a professional photographer to take photos of guests as they walk down the red carpet.

Instructions

  1. 1

Trace stars of different sizes on gold and silver wrapping paper and cut over the outlines using sharp scissors. Punch a hole through the top of the star and extend matching threat through each. Hang the stars over strategic indoor and outdoor spots for added colour.

  2. 2

Trace large stars over gold foil wrapping paper to mimic those on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. Cut each star and paste it to black card stock cut to a square, to resemble a tile. Depending on personal preference, place the tiles over the floor, hang these from the ceiling using fishing line or paste them to the wall. Create extra drama by writing the name of each guest over a star.

  3. 3

Place a rented fog machine near the front door of the venue or door of the dance room to transform it for entertaining. Alternatively, string metallic streamers and tinsel around the room. Use helium balloons in gold, black and silver to fill the ceiling or create a balloon arch at the gate.

  4. 4

Create a thematic centrepiece. Consider pasting oversized movie posters to cardboard and cutting out holes through which guests can poke their heads for photos. Alternatively, outline the alphabets for "Hollywood" on white card stock and cut these out with sharp scissors. Paste the letters on a larger rectangular piece of cardboard poster and tape it to a wall or prop it on an outdoor location for a photo op.

  5. 5

Suspend Christmas lights around doors, window frames and other key elements for subtle lighting. Highlight key points of interest using spotlights.

  6. 6

Use elegant and attractive tableware to heighten the appeal and glam up the venue. Place frosted cupcakes in crystal or clear glass cake stands to decorate the buffet table. Sprinkle confetti over the tables and prop up glittery gold frames on the refreshment table with black and white photos of Oscar winners.

  7. 7

Spread a red runner from the gate to the front door to create a red carpet entrance. Keep the fabric at least 4 feet wide and as long as required. Lean large mirrors on either side of the runner, preferably against a wall of structure for support, so partygoers can get one final glimpse of themselves before making their entrance.

Tips and warnings

  • Playing a film clipping through a projector brightens a bare wall and blends with the theme. Place a few director's chairs for guests to sit on and hang streamers that look like film reels in the room for added effect.
