The AM200, or Linksys ADSL Modem, allows you to connect to the Internet through an ADSL line provided by an ADSL service provider. The modem serves as the point of exchange between the ADSL line that your service provider runs to your location and your local Ethernet network, wireless network, or individual computer. ADSL service providers may include a modem for your use as part of their service. If not, you can install and configure the Linksys AM200 using configuration data provided by your ADSL service provider.

  1. 1

Connect the modem. Plug one end of the phone cable into the phone port on the back of the modem and the other into the wall jack with DSL service.

  2. 2

Access the web-based modem configuration page. Open your web browser, enter in the "Address" field, and press the "Enter" key. This opens the login screen.

  3. 3

Type admin in both the user name and password text boxes. Click the "Login" button. This opens the main configuration page at the "Basic Setup" tab.

  4. 4

Configure the ADSL settings. Use the settings required by your ADSL provider for ADSL settings such as encapsulation, virtual circuit ID and multiplexing. Keep default settings where no change is specified by your ADSL provider.

  5. 5

Configure the IP settings. Select static or dynamic IP Settings as directed by your provider. Confirm PPPoE configuration settings. Some provider PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) and will require that you enable it.

  6. 6

Configure the security settings. You may choose to enable a modem firewall by clicking the "Enable" checkbox next to the "Firewall" text. Enabling the firewall increases the security of computers inside the firewall.

  7. 7

Close the browser, then turn off and restart your computer. The modem is now ready to be connected to a network or computer and provide ADSL connectivity.
