FireWire is a powerful port inside of a computer and other devices (such as external hard drives and video cameras) that allow the exchange of data at a fast rate. However, not all computers are equipped with FireWire ports, but most, if not all new computers have at least one USB drive. Because of this, it is sometimes necessary to connect a FireWire cable into a USB drive in order to use the external devices.
Attach the FireWire cable to the external device.
Fit the FireWire-to-USB adaptor over the free, exposed end of the cable. A link provided in the Resources section leads to a website that sells these adaptors.
Plug the the end of the cable with the USB adaptor over it into the USB port of the computer.
Turn on the power for the external device. The computer will now detect it through the USB drive.
