A panda costume is fairly easy to make. Because the panda's black-and-white fur pattern is simple to replicate, just a few supplies are required. It does require some basic sewing skills, but should come together in about an hour.
- Skill level:
- Moderately Easy
Things you need
- Black sweatshirt
- White faux fur
- White thread
- Black felt
- White felt
- White fleece ski cap
- Black sweatpants
- Black mittens
- Black shoes
- Newspaper (optional)
- Black and white face paint
Spread the sweatshirt on a flat surface. Make the tummy by cutting out an oval of faux fur, large enough to cover the front of the sweatshirt. Sew the fabric oval to the front of the sweatshirt.
Make ears by cutting two large half-circles from the black felt. Cut two smaller half-circles from white felt. Attach the white half-circles to the front of the black half-circles with a needle and thread. Stitch the base of the felt half-circles to the top of the white ski cap, with the white part facing forward.
Put on the sweatshirt, sweatpants, mittens and shoes. If desired, stuff the costume with crumpled-up newspaper to create a roly-poly shape.
Use the paint to make your entire face white, and then add circles of black paint around the eyes and on the tip of the nose.
Put on the ski cap with the white part of the ears facing forward.
Tips and warnings
- If you'd like to reuse the sweatshirt without the panda effects, attach the faux fur with safety pins instead of thread.
