When doing home improvement projects, sometimes it is necessary to build an interior wall. By creating it on your own, you are able to determine the height and length of your choice. It does not matter if you are building a single wall or creating a room, the process for building a wall is the same. Although there are additional steps if you are adding a door or window, the basic construction is the same. If it is going to be a load-bearing wall, consult a professional.

Things you need
- 2 x 4 studs
- Measuring tape
Figure out area where the wall will be built. Measure height and width. For the height, you will need to take three measurements. One on each end and one in the middle. This will take into account if the ceiling and floor are not square. Do the measurement from left to right.
Mark ceiling and floor where the wall will be placed.
It is easiest to construct the wall on the floor in front of the opening where the wall will go. Before constructing the wall there are a few basics. First, the wall studs need to be placed 16 inches on centre. This means there needs to be a 2x4 every 16 inches. The measurement is taken from the middle of the 2-inch part of the stud. On the ends of the wall, you need two 2x4's next to each other.
Take the measurement of the width and put it on two of the 2x4's. Cut wood to length. Take the height measurement, subtract the 2 inches for the top and 2 inches for the bottom and transfer it to the 2x4's. Once again start from the left and go to the right. Take into account any variance in the height and cut accordingly. Lay out the pieces on the floor as you go along.
With all the pieces laid out on the floor, start attaching them with nail from underneath. Make sure to put the beams 16 inches apart. Make sure to have two 2x4's on each of the ends. Do the same for the top.
With the help of an assistant, raise the wall into place. Since it will be a tight fit, use a scrap piece of 2x4 and hammer to knock it in.
Secure the wall with nails to the ceiling beams and floor.
