Properly cleaning your contact lenses is the most essential aspect of your eye care. Contacts can carry germs, and daily cleaning is necessary to prevent infections. Not only is properly cleaning your contact lenses necessary for the health of your eyes, but proper cleanings will also increase the life span of your lenses.

Things You'll Need:

  • Disinfectant soap Cleaning solution Lens case
  1. Step 1

    Wash your hands. Before cleaning your contacts, sterilize your hands so as not to transfer debris or germs. Use disinfectant soap to thoroughly wash your hands and under your nails.

  2. Step 2

    Clean your contact lens. Remove one contact at a time. Once you remove your contact, immediately begin the cleaning process. Place the contact in the palm of your hand. Apply a couple drops of cleaning solution into the palm of your hand with your lens. Use your pointer finger to very gently rub one side of the lens at a time. This will loosen debris.

  3. Step 3

    Rinse away debris. Use cleaning solution once again to rinse away the debris you've loosened from the lens. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines for your specific solution as to how long you should rinse your lens.

  4. Step 4

    Disinfect and store your lens. Place your newly cleaned lens into the appropriate side of your lens case. Fill the case with solution to disinfect. Replace the lens case cap to store your lens in a clean environment.
