How to Upgrade a Samsung TV

Updated July 19, 2017

The modern television is no longer a mindless tube. Today's LCD and plasma televisions are similar to computers. Like all computers, your television set needs an occasional update to the software and firmware inside. The update, for example, may correct for a red blur on a moving picture.

Go to the Samsung support website. Enter the model number of your television and press "Enter." Click on the "Firmware" tab and select which file to download. If you're unsure, select the first object on the list. Download and save to your desktop.

Unzip the file using a program such as Winzip. Insert a USB flash drive into an open port on your computer. Double-click on the computer icon to view the USB flash drive. Double-click on the drive to open a new window.

Drag and drop the extracted files from the desktop to the flash drive. Click on the "safely remove hardware" icon in your system tray and remove the flash drive.

Insert the flash drive into the USB port on the side of your television labelled "wiselink." Using your remote control, press "Menu" and navigate to the set-up menu, then press "Enter." Press the down arrow and highlight "S/W Upgrade." Press "Enter" and follow the onscreen instructions. Once you're finished, remove the USB flash drive. Your Samsung television is now up to date.
