Cutting Boards

Cutting boards made from fallen trees make a great addition to almost any kitchen decor and are functional as well. Rings from the tree need to be cut 1 to 2 inches thick and allowed to dry for a month. They should be sanded and have food-safe butcher block conditioner rubbed into the cutting board repeatedly to make it usable. Different types of wood have different colours and grains, creating a wide range of cutting board options.

Benches

A popular item made from fallen trees is benches. They can be made from different pieces of wood that were cut from a tree, or be as simple as using a stump. Often wood needs to be cut to appropriate thickness levels and sizes to make all of the necessary pieces. Some standard measurements to remember are that the height of an average chair seat is 20 inches, a seat is normally at least 17 inches deep and 25 inches of width is normally needed per person sitting on it. Specific plans can be found in wood working books or online.

Table Tops

Stumps and other parts of fallen trees can be used to create table tops. Creating table tops requires removing branches and other unnecessary parts of the tree. Rip saws can be used to cut long strips of wood at different thickness levels. Different fallen trees have different grain patterns. Different types of finishes can create the desired look.

Artwork

With an imagination fallen trees can be turned into all sorts of great art pieces. Stained stumps and cut boards can be used as canvases for great artwork. Branches and other things can be used for decorative pieces. Utilising an imagination and good wood working skills, fallen trees can be turned into great artwork showcased indoors or outdoors.
