Lift the Dot fasteners allow you to make your boat ready to launch in quick order and, following an afternoon of boating, allow you to securely protect your vessel's interior equally fast. They provide you with a way to protect one of your most enjoyable investments from the elements. The mounting posts can be installed on your boat's gunwales in a few hours, depending on the size of your vessel, and the dots can be sewn into your canvas boat cover with a bit of skill at hand-sewing.

The Lift the Dot fastener system is a two-part system, consisting of the Dot, the metal fixtures placed around the edge of the boat cover, and the Mounting Post, which is attached permanently to your boat's gunwales with screws. The Dot has a hole in the centre with two small springs which, when pressed over the mounting post, separate, then close around the groove in the mounting post to secure the cover.
Spread the cover over the boat, so that the Dots are near or atop the Mounting Posts on the starboard side. Starting at the stern, align the hole of the Dot with the post of the Mounting Post. Press down until you hear or feel the Dot "click." Continue forward, pressing Dots on to Mounting Posts until the entire side of the canvas boat cover is attached to the Mounting Posts, then continue snapping Dots over Mounting Posts, working your way from the port side bow, to and across the stern until the boat cover is in place.
Remove the boat cover by starting at the port side rear. Unsnap the stern Dots from the Mounting Posts by lifting one side of the Dot. Work your way across the stern and forward on the starboard side, unsnapping as you go. When you reach the bow, continue unsnapping Dots from the Mounting Posts as you proceed down the port side. Remember that, when you are unsnapping the Dots, lift the metal Dot; don't pull up on the canvas. Trying to unsnap a Dot by pulling on the canvas around it may tear the Dot out of the canvas.
Tips and warnings
- Lifting straight up on the dots will not release them; lift up on one side of the dot only, almost twisting them.
- Pulling the canvas up will not release the Dots. It will only tear your boat cover.
