If you are attempting to wax your body at home and have extremely sensitive skin, there are several ways that you can numb your skin without a doctor's care. Although over-the-counter numbing creams, sprays and gels only last temporarily, they can help you avoid the pain that may be associated with cosmetic procedures such as eyebrow tweezing or hair waxing. All numbing creams, sprays and gels are not right for everyone, and if you have extremely sensitive skin, test the solution on the inside of your arm before using on your face or any other sensitive areas of the body.
Sit on your arm or leg. After a while, your leg or arm will fall asleep, causing pins and needles and numbing your leg or arm. This may only last up to a minute.
Numb your skin with ice. Rub your skin directly with an ice cube until it melts. This method is especially useful for numbing the face or ears.
Purchase numbing spray like GiGiHONEE Anesthetic Numbing Spray (see Resources). Numbing spray is useful for numbing legs and large areas of the body in preparation for waxing. The spray will last between half an hour to an hour.
Use a mouth-numbing gel containing benzocaine, like Orabase and Anbesol. These gels are directed for use in the mouth to aid in toothache and canker sore pain, but can also be applied directly to the skin. These gels can be purchased at your local drugstore or grocery store. The numbing usually lasts between half an hour to an hour.
You may apply ice in conjunction with any of these numbing remedies.
