Instructions

    Spines

  1. 1

Measure the hooded sweatshirt straight down from the front centre edge of the hood to the back centre edge of the sweatshirt bottom. Measure a sheet of newspaper the same length and draw jagged 8-cm (3-inch) spines on the paper to create a pattern. Cut out the pattern and place it on the green felt.

  2. 2

Pin the pattern to the felt. Cut out the felt along the edges of the pattern. If you need to cut the spines in sections, add 2.5 cm (1 inch) to the overall length of the cut spines.

  3. 3

Pin the felt spine pieces to the sweatshirt, starting at the top of the centre front edge of the hood. Pin the spines all the way down the centre of the back of the hood and the length of the back of the sweatshirt. Overlap sections 2.5 cm (1 inch). Sew the spine to the sweatshirt, using small stitches.

    Teeth

  1. 1

Measure the hooded sweatshirt from the front centre edge of the hood all the way around to the other side of the hood.On a sheet of newspaper the same length you just measured, draw jagged 8-cm (3-inch) teeth. Cut out the pattern, and place it on the white felt.

  2. 2

Pin the pattern to the felt. Cut out the felt along the edges of the pattern. If you need to cut the teeth in sections, add 2.5 cm (1 inch) to the overall length of the cut teeth. You will use this extra length to overlap edges when you sew the teeth to the hood.

  3. 3

Pin the felt teeth sections to the hood, starting at the bottom front edge of one side of the hood. Pin the teeth inside the edge of the hood, and pin all the way around the hood opening to the bottom of the other side of the hood. Overlap sections 2.5 cm (1 inch). Sew the teeth to the hood, using small stitches.

    Eyes

  1. 1

Draw several examples until you get the look you want. Make sure the eyes are in proportion to the rest of the costume. Eyes 15 cm (6 inches) in length is a good place to start. Place your eye drawing on the newspaper, cut out the pattern and place it on the yellow felt.

  2. 2

Pin the pattern to the felt. Cut out the felt along the edges of the pattern.

  3. 3

Place the eyes in the centre of each side of the hood and pin into place. Sew the eyes to the hood, using small stitches.
