Photo pendants allow you to complement your personality while wearing a stylish necklace. With the ease of printing via colour inkjet and laser printers, making photo pendants is easier than ever. You can make these photo pendants from shrink plastic, also sold as Shrinky Dinks, or even old Scrabble tiles. How you make your photo pendant depends on the look you want to achieve and the supplies you have available.
- Skill level:
Things you need
- Graphics program
- Shrink plastic sheet
- Inkjet printer
- Hole puncher
- Clear acrylic spray
- Jump ring
- Scrabble tile
- Photo paper
- Découpage glue
- Clear dimensional glue
- Chain or ribbon
Size your photo in your graphics program. It will need to be three times larger than the size of your final photo pendant.
Print your photo onto your shrink plastic. Print it on the side that feels a bit sticky to the touch. If you are unsure which side this is, moisten your finger and touch the plastic. Your finger will stick slightly to the plastic's printable side.
Cut the photo from the shrink plastic.
Punch a small hole in the plastic where you want to place a jump ring to attach the pendant to a chain or ribbon. It's important to do this step before baking, as the plastic will thicken in the oven, making it more difficult to punch a hole in the plastic.
Bake the photo according to the shrink plastic manufacturer's baking instructions. The plastic won't take long to shrink.
Spray the pendant with clear acrylic sealer. Allow the sealer to dry.
Attach a jump ring to the pendant and string on the chain or rope of your choice.
