Steaming is a great way to cook foods. It preserves most of the nutrients and vitamins and doesn't add unnecessary fat, such as butter or oil. This article will use vegetables to show how you can cook foods quickly and easily with a microwave steamer.
- Skill level:
Cut your vegetables, such as broccoli, carrots or green beans, into chunks so they will fit into the steamer.
Separate the steamer into three parts: the bottom pan that holds the water, the middle colander pan (with holes in the bottom) and the cover.
Put the veggies in the middle pan.
Put about 2 inches of water in the bottom pan.
Stack the pans with the water on the bottom, the veggies in the middle and the cover on top.
Put the stack into the microwave. Set the timer for five minutes on standard temperature. Press start.
When the veggies are cooked, take the stack out and remove the cover right away, or the veggies will continue to cook.
Taste to make sure the vegetables are done to your preference. If they are undercooked, put the cover back on and heat at 30-second increments until they are done to your liking.
