How to Make Decals for Fishing Rod Blanks

Updated April 17, 2017

Though not at all necessary for the function of a fishing rod, decals can help add a little flair to an otherwise dull looking rod. The instructions provided herein provide all the information required to make your custom built rods look that much sharper.

Design your decal using an imaging program like Paint or Photoshop.

Scale the image down to the appropriate size. You can fit several decals on one standard sheet of printer paper.

Print the images onto sticker paper.

Cut the image out neatly.

Peel the backer from the decal and apply it to the rod.

Apply clear epoxy over the decal using a small paintbrush and allow to dry.

It is best to apply any decals after the rod has been wrapped but before it is coated with epoxy, so that only one coat of epoxy needs to be applied.

Clear epoxy lets off toxic fumes, so work in a well ventilated area.
