Making a pyramid for school is a fun and easy project. You can make a simple pyramid or you can go into greater detail by drawing pictures on it. Making the pyramid is only part of what you will need for your school project. Make sure you learn the history and facts that go along with the pyramid you are making. This project can take an hour or several hours, depending on the detail you want to put into it.
Measure the cardboard for the pyramid. The bottom square is 9 1/8 inches on all sides. You will need four triangles, one for each side of the pyramid. Keeping the bottom of the triangle connected to the bottom of the pyramid, find the centre. Then measure straight up 7 1/2 inches to the point of the triangle. The sides of the triangle should be 8 3/4 inches. Now cut out the cardboard piece.
Lightly score the cardboard with a utility knife at the bottom of each triangle, so they will fold up easier.
Fold the triangles up and tape them together to hold the pyramid temporarily.
Put glue on the bottom third of the pyramid. Wrap yarn around the bottom of the pyramid and stick it to the glue. Leave an empty space the size of the yarn and wrap another piece around and stick it to the glue. When you have finished the glued area, put glue up the rest of the pyramid and work the yarn in the same way. When the yarn is covered, it will look like blocks of stone.
Mix 5 parts white glue with 1 part water in a bowl. Rip newspaper into 1-inch-by-4-inch pieces. Dip the newspaper in the glue and place the strips on the pyramid. Push it over the yarn to make it look like blocks of stone. Cover the whole pyramid and allow it to dry for at least 24 hours.
Paint the pyramid with dark brown paint and allow it to dry.
Brush on more glue and cover the pyramid in sand. You can pour on the sand while holding the pyramid at an angle and then let the excess drop off. Do this on each side until it's completely covered. Let it dry completely, then decide if you need another coat of sand. You can use a spray-on glue once the first coat of sand is on, because brushing on more glue may take some of the sand off.
Place your pyramid in a box lid with a 1-inch lip, and fill in with sand for a desert effect.
