How to Make Fancy Letters for Stencils

Written by v. l. hamlin | 13/05/2017

Make fancy letters for stencils using your computer and home printer instead of wasting your money on expensive stencils at the craft store. When you make your own stencils you can use virtually any font available and make fancy letters of any kind. Plus, when you make your own stencils you can write whatever letters you want to form words rather than using a stencil letter by letter.

Things you need

  • Word processing software

  • Printer

  • Card stock

  • Craft knife

Open a new document in your word processing software and set the size to letter or 8 1/2 by 11 inches.

Type the word or words you want to use for your stencils.

Highlight the font by going to "Edit > Select All."

Go to "Format > Font."

Select the fancy letters you would like to use for the stencils.

Choose the font style and size, and then click "OK."

Print the stencil onto heavy-duty card stock using a basic printer setting.

Cut out the letters using a craft knife.

Use your homemade stencil as you would a regular stencil.
