When summer is on the way, it is important not to expose yourself to beach days without a good base tan for protection. Also, having colour the first time you sport that bikini always gets extra looks. Learn how to get a good tan from a sun bed by following these guidelines in preparation for the summer months to come.

Build a base tan. Make a plan of 6 to 8 sessions everyday or every other day and do not miss them.

Use a tan accelerator designed specifically for sun beds. This helps build and maintain your base.

Moisturise after tanning. Do not use a moisturiser with mineral oil as this shields you from getting a tan.

Go on the sun bed 2 to 3 times per week after the base is established. Switch between a high and low intensity bed to keep the skin from becoming immune.

Eat a balanced diet with more beta-carotene than normal. Foods like carrots, tomatoes, radishes and broccoli will help your tan last longer.

Tip

Give your face extra care during your tanning time to prevent dry-out.
