Accidents may happen when a child or on a mattress. If a bed-wetting incident has occurred, it is important that you take care of the mattress as soon as you possibly can. There are a few different options you should take when cleaning a mattress after anyone has wet the bed. You can eliminate the stain, odour and bacteria caused by the urine.

    Begin by drying the spot. Blot the spot with paper towels or an absorbent dish towel.

    Sprinkle dry baking soda over the stained area. How much you use will be determined by the size of the stain on the mattress. You want to be sure to fully cover the stain.

    Allow the baking soda to sit on the mattress for 10-15 minutes.

    Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the baking soda from the mattress. Be sure to get all of the baking soda off.

    Repeat steps 2-4 one more time.

    Spray the stained portion of the mattress with white vinegar.

    Place the mattress outside, preferably in a sunny area, so the mattress can dry. If you can't put your mattress outside, stand it up in your home and direct a fan towards the wet area of the mattress.
