Canvas is a traditional material that artists use to paint their masterpieces on. A painted canvas can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to your home, livening up the walls and bringing a sense of decorative cohesion to a space. If you're on a budget, consider making your own canvas art at home. You can paint a series of canvases in a simplistic style to create a modern look that is quick and easy to make.

Things you need
- 4 canvases
- Paint brush
- Painter's tape
Purchase four art canvases from a local art shop or craft shop. Make sure each canvas is a square shape, and that they are all the same size.
Paint two of the canvases in one colour, and two of the canvases in a different colour. Use acrylic art paint to cover the canvases, and choose colours that complement one another, like blue and brown or red and yellow. Let dry.
Apply two lines of painter's taper horizontally across the centre of each canvas, about 6 inches apart. Painter's tape won't peel away the paint you've already applied and can be found at craft stores or building supply stores.
Paint a strip horizontally across each canvas, painting in the space created by the painter's tape. Paint the opposite colour onto each canvas than what you originally painted. For example, if you painted two canvases blue and two brown, paint a brown stripe on the two blue canvases and a blue stripe on the two brown canvases. Let dry.
Hang the four canvases on a wall to form a square, placing the canvases of the same colour opposite one another: The canvas on the top right should be the same colour as the canvas on the bottom left.
