Reaching a milestone birthday calls for a celebration, including gag gifts making fun of the celebrant's age. Making a clever T-shirt for the celebrant to wear for the evening can be as funny as store purchased items. Remember, it's all in good fun. Make sure the party is casual enough to bring a gag gift, and the celebrant will laugh at the joke.

  1. 1

Assemble a basket of essentials. Create a basket of necessary products for the new 50-year-old. Include denture tablets, arthritis cream, prune juice, hearing aid batteries and adult diapers. Purchase a walking cane to go with the basket. Design a basket full of goodies from when the celebrant was young such as popular CDs, T-shirts with sayings like "Fifty's Nifty," headlines from their childhood and candy they ate growing up.

  2. 2

Create a unique birthday gift. Place 50 lollipops in a flower pot using styrofoam. Write "50 Sucks" on the outside of the flower pot. Add a ribbon around the flower pot. Make instant hair for the balding birthday celebrant. Cut grey fabric in a circular shape and glue inside a Velcro-back sun visor. Voila, a head full of hair! Buy a large bottle of prune juice and tie two champagne glasses to the front of the bottle. Give a special birthday toast using your gift. Try something like, "a toast to your health."

  3. 3

Go for funny. Ensure the celebrant has a good sense of humour and enjoys jokes. Purchase a large fake cake and have a dancer pop out of the top. Make sure the dancer is 80-years-old and the sash declares her the winner the same year the celebrant was born. Find a few silly gag gifts, such as whoopee cushions, funny office cubicle signs, walking canes with horns and other gadgets.

  4. 4

Consider the unusual. Try something a little out of the ordinary if your birthday celebrant has a sense of humour. Make a headstone with his name on it and a clever saying, such as "Over the Hill," or "The death of your youth." Other unusual gag gifts include an LED faucet, which lights the water either red or blue when turned on. Purchase fake lotto tickets to put inside a birthday card. What a surprise the birthday honoree gets when they reveal a million dollars.

  5. 5

Play on the influences of age. Gag gifts can include how age affects a body. Make sure your birthday celebrant has a good sense of humour before giving any of these gifts. Try giving "re-energizer briefs." Include a card with a funny saying like, "It's fallen and can't get up." Use an old medicine bottle with the label removed to make your own miracle pills for sexual performance. Print a new label from your computer and fill it with green jelly beans or Smarties.
