    Verify if your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit. This step is important because you do not want to download an incorrect version. In order to verify the type of operating system for Windows XP, click on the "Start" button in the lower left-hand corner of your PC. Next choose "Run." Click in the text box and type sysdm.cpl, then click "OK." If you are running a 64-bit operating system, you will see the following: "Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Version." If you are running a 32-bit operating system, you will see the following: "Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version."

  • You cannot install a bit version that is not designed for the version of Windows that you are not running. If you receive an error message during the install, verify that you have the correct bit version.
