Creating groups on a BlackBerry smartphone provides an efficient way to transmit a message to a group of people. Groups created using BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) gives group members the ability to talk to each other, and share pictures and music using BBM's instant-messaging service. You can also create a group using the contact list, then save the group as a distribution list. Distribution lists use e-mails to send messages to the group, and are not restricted by the 160-character limit of a text message.
