Pepper spray was created to be used as a self-defence tool. When you spray the pepper spray in someone's eyes, it burns and they cannot see. This gives you time to escape a dangerous situation. If you don't have the money to buy some pepper spray, you can make some at home.

Skill level:

Things you need

  • Empty body spray container
  • Hot red pepper powder
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Baby oil
  • Small glass
  • Spoon
  • Liquid strainer

  1. 1

Put 2 tbsp of hot red pepper powder in a small glass.

  2. 2

Pour rubbing alcohol in to the glass until it is about 3.8 cm (1 1/2 inches) high.

  3. 3

Mix the alcohol and the hot red pepper powder together with a spoon. It will take a minute or two to get it combined without any chunks.

  4. 4

Pour in 2 tbsp of baby oil. Mix again with the spoon for several minutes.

  5. 5

Strain your mixture into an empty spray bottle. You may need a funnel for this step. Place the cap on the spray bottle and you are all set.

Tips and warnings

  • Your homemade pepper spray will last two weeks.
  • Homemade pepper spray is also effective on dogs -- so if a dog attacks you, you can spray it and it will not be able to see.
  • Don't spray anyone with this mixture for fun. It can really hurt and is only to be used as a self-defence mechanism.
