Ever lose a chair arm cover? Got a favourite old chair that could use a little protection on the arms? Well, with these very easy chair arm covers, you can protect your chair and add a little style at the same time. Only very basic sewing skills are required, and you choose your own fabric. However, a thicker, more durable fabric is recommended.

  1. 1

Lay a piece of paper against the flat front of the chair arm. Trace the outline of the chair arm to get the correct curvature on the end piece of the cover.

  2. 2

Cut the paper along the trace lines to create a pattern. Measure the length of the curve, which will determine the size of the cover.

  3. 3

Wash, dry, and iron your fabric.

  4. 4

Lay the fabric flat, and place the pattern on top of it. Trace around the pattern. Add 1/4-inch all around, and draw cutting lines with the added measurement.

  5. 5

On the fabric, measure a square that is the length of the curve. Add 1/4-inch on all sides, and draw cutting lines.

  6. 6

    Cut out both pieces.

  7. 7

Using a sewing machine (or needle and thread), hem 1/4-inch on three sides of the square and the bottom edge of the front curved piece.

  8. 8

Attach the remaining edge of the square piece and the curved edge of the front piece with straight pins.

  9. 9

Sew these pieces together, removing the pins as you go along.

  10. 10

Place the cover on the chair arm, and follow the same steps to create a cover for the other chair arm.
