Teachers are judged by students, administrators and parents by the way they dress. While some schools allow their teachers to dress more casually, others may impose a dress code. Either way, teachers must dress professionally when they go to school. When teachers dress for success, they gain respect from administrators and set a positive example for their students. If you are new to the teaching profession, learn how to properly dress in the classroom.

Skill level:

    Dress For Male Teachers

  1. 1

Wear a pair of dress slacks with a business shirt or a polo shirt. Your shirt should be neatly ironed and tucked into your trousers. Put on shoes that are dark in colour and properly shined.

  2. 2

Wear clothes that are in good condition. Ripped seams, falling hems and holes in your shirt are unacceptable. Make sure to keep your clothes in good shape and be sure they fit you properly.

  3. 3

Maintain a clean appearance. Your hair should be neatly styled and your face should be cleanly shaved. While it is OK to wear a little cologne, be careful to not put too much on. If you have any piercings or tattoos, cover them up during school hours.

    Dress for Female Teachers

  1. 1

Wear a dress or a pair of dress slacks with a nice blouse. If you opt for the dress, it should fall no higher than the top of your knee. Clothes should not be skin tight, and your midriff, thighs and cleavage must never be exposed. Wear closed-toed shoes that are comfortable because you will be on your feet all day.

  2. 2

Wear make-up that is modest. All you need is mascara to open up your eyes, a little blush to brighten your complexion and a neutral lipgloss to make your lips shine.

  3. 3

Style your hair so it sits neat and orderly. For example, you can put your hair in a sleek ponytail. Avoid dying your hair any colour that is not natural.
