How to make vanilla buttercream frosting

Vanilla buttercream frosting is a traditional topping for cakes, cupcakes and other baked goods. This frosting has a rich, buttery flavour with a hint of vanilla. It is also simple to create as it does not require any actual cooking. Simply mix together a few common ingredients and you can have a delicious buttercream frosting in just a few minutes. You can even add your own spin and include any flavours you like such as coconut or almond.

Things you need

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups icing sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 5 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract

    Cream the butter with a mixer or wooden spoon until smooth.

    Add the sugar, salt, 3 tablespoons of milk and the vanilla. Continue stirring the frosting until all ingredients blend together and the frosting reaches the desired consistency.

    Add the remaining milk if the frosting is too thick after blending all the ingredients together.
