Frames can sometimes detract from a picture and the cost of framing can be prohibitive. Fortunately, there are several ways to hang a picture without a frame if you have a few supplies from discount or hardware stores. Self-adhesive interlocking strips are convenient for picture hanging, especially if you purchase the type that remove easily. Get creative with your wall art and attach the pictures to ribbons, canvases or wood boards.
Connect four sets of self-adhesive interlocking strips.
Peel the protective backing from one side of one strip and press it against the back of the picture, in the corner. Follow the process to attach one set of strips onto each corner of the picture.
Peel the protective backing from the face up side of the four strip sets. Press the picture against the wall in the desired location. Hold it in place for one minute.
Cut a 25 cm (10 inch) length of 1.5 cm (5/8 inch) wide ribbon. Half of the ribbon length will fit onto the backside of the picture; the other half will be visible on the wall. Adjust the length of ribbon to suit your personal style and available wall space.
Create two sets of self-adhesive interlocking strips. Remove the protective backing from one side of each set. Press the sticky side of one strip set onto the back of the picture, 12.5 cm (5 inches) below the top rim in the centre.
Press the sticky side of the other set in the centre of the ribbon strand, flush with one end. Remove the protective backing from the face up strip on the ribbon strand. Press the end of the ribbon strand on the wall, 12.5 cm (5 inches) above the desired position for the top of the picture. Hold the ribbon strand in place for one minute. The ribbon hangs vertically on the wall.
Remove the protective backing from the face up strip in the centre of the back of the picture. Press the strip onto the ribbon strand, 5 inches below the top of the ribbon. Press the picture against the ribbon for one minute.
Attach a strip of double-sided tape to the back of the picture along each edge.
Remove the protective paper and press the picture onto a framed artist's canvas. Hold the picture in place for one minute.
Insert a nail into the wall in the desired location of the picture. Hang the top back edge of the canvas onto the nail.
Stain or paint a wood board that is slightly larger than the picture. Then tape the picture to the centre of the board. Hang the board on the wall with a picture hanger.
