How to Build a Concrete Block Wine Rack

Updated February 21, 2017

Keeping wine stored properly is important. Improperly storing bottles can have a negative effect on the wine's flavour. However, it is difficult to store those bottles on their sides if a wine rack isn't handy. It is easy to build a wine rack out of concrete blocks and boards, and while it may not look very fancy, it gets the job done. These steps will show you how to complete this practical project.

Lay two concrete blocks on their sides on the floor where the wine rack will sit. Place one of the boards on top of the blocks, lining the edges of the boards up with the outer edges on the blocks.

Place two more concrete blocks on the ends of the board and put the second board on top of those blocks, lining the edges up again. Place the last two concrete blocks on the ends of the second board.

Place three bottles of wine on their sides on each board. Bolster the outer bottles of wine against the block on the outer side and against a brick on the inner side. The bricks will lock the bottles in place. Fit the centre bottles in between the bricks, bolstering them with additional bricks if necessary.

Readjust the bricks each time a bottle is removed from the rack to ensure the wine stays put.

It is best to assemble this wine rack so that its back is against a wall for extra support.

Things You'll Need

  • Six concrete blocks
  • Two 24-inch pieces of 2x4 boards
  • Four to eight bricks
  • Six bottles of wine
