# How to read the future with regular playing cards

Everyone has a deck of cards laying around the house somewhere, but few know that they could be used to read the future. The art of reading the future with regular playing cards is referred to as cartomancy and has been popular in Europe since the 14th century. Select one of the three methods based on how detailed a reading you want.

Shuffle the deck of playing cards while thinking of the question you have on the future, for example: “What kind of day will I have?”

Split the deck in half using your left hand and put that half down. Place the other half that's in your right hand on top of it.

Draw the first card. Read the drawn card based on the meanings outlined in Section 4.

Draw the first top three cards. Place the topmost card on the left, the second card in the middle and the third card on the right. The first card (left) represents the past, the second (middle) represents the present and the third (right) represents the future.

Turn each of the cards face up. Read the drawn cards based on the meanings outlined in Section 4.
