The 1920s was a decade of moral revolution in American history. American women rejected Victorian ideas of femininity and took up marathon dancing, flapper fashion and wearing make-up. Traditional 1920s make-up is typified by smouldering eye designs, bright cheeks and childlike lip colours. You can copy this look for yourself in just a few steps using make-up you may already have. This easy look is ideal for wear with a flapper costume or as a retro party look.

Things you need
- Pressed powder
- Make-up brush
- Raspberry or orange blush
- Black eyeliner
- Gray or green eyeshadow
- Long soft bristled eyeshadow brush
- Lip liner
- Raspberry lipstick
- Lip brush
Cover your entire face and neck with foundation that is slightly lighter than your natural skin tone. Cover your lips with foundation too. Press the foundation with powder to keep it in place.
Swirl your cheek brush over raspberry or orange blush. Paint the blush on the apples of the cheek using circular motions.
Arch your eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil. The eyebrows should look like two crescent moons, thin and elegant.
Use black eyeliner to line the top and bottom of the eyes. Draw the black eyeliner in the crease of the eye socket. Blend this into the skin using your finger.
Apply light grey or green eyeshadow to the entire eyelid using a long-bristled eyeshadow brush. Sweep on mascara to the top and lower lashes.
Outline your lips with a raspberry lip liner drawing inside the lips to make them appear smaller. To get the bow look, make the lips look smaller by drawing the ends 1/2 inch in on either side.
Use a lipstick brush to paint the lips with raspberry lipstick.
