It may seem impossible to sell a car that isn't running, but surprisingly enough, it can be done. However, don't expect to get top-dollar. You will have to sacrifice some profit, but at least you'll get rid of the car. Here's how.
- Skill level:
- Moderately Challenging
Things you need
- Phone book
- Sales Paper
Open a sales paper and make a note of the prices of cars that are of the same year, make and model as the car you want to sell.
Consider what is wrong with your car. Call around to local repair shops and get a quote for repairs required on the vehicle.
Deduct the cost of repairs from the list price for the vehicle. Then, subtract a few more hundred for the inconvenience of fixing the car. This number will be your selling price.
List your car in a local paper classified or online classified site like Craigslist.com. Makes sure the add says, "Needs work," to indicate that the car isn't in 100% working order.
Be honest about what is wrong with the car and tell the potential buyer that you took the repair cost off of the final cost. He will appreciate your honesty and be more likely to buy.
Tips and warnings
- Be flexible with your price. Get the best offer you can and call it a day.
- Getting a car sold cheaply is better than having it sit unsold, collecting dust.
