How to Make an Elephant Costume

Updated November 21, 2016

Buying costumes from a store or online can be pretty expensive. Follow this guide for step by step directions on how to make an elephant costume out of materials that you probably have at home or can pick up from your local crafts store for a small price.

Cut your piece of cardboard in half so you have two equal pieces.

Trace a shape of an elephant ear on each piece of cardboard. It will look something like a kidney bean.

Cut out the ear shape in each piece of cardboard with an Exacto knife.

Cover each ear in grey fabric using fabric glue, or a sewing machine if you are comfortable.

Cover the baseball hat in the grey fabric. You can use fabric glue to hold it in place.

Attach the ears to the baseball hat using hand stitches.

Cover the bill of the hat with grey fabric, and extend the fabric out to form a trunk.

Stuff the trunk with batting and sew closed.

Add googly eyes to the front of the cap or use black paint to create the same effect.

Use excess material to create a tail. Stuff it with batting like the trunk.

Hand stitch the tail to the back of the sweat pants.
