Stocking flowers are a dainty and feminine accent that you can add to clothes, hats or even arrange in a vase for household decoration. You can make these beautiful creations yourself with a little bit of patience and some basic floral supplies. Purchase the necessary materials from a craft store, florist or any hosiery shop. If you have good-quality nylon stockings at home, however, simply use them to make flowers.

Things you need
- Floral wire
- Wire cutters
- Coloured nylon stockings
- Nylon thread
- Floral tape
Cut 8 pieces of 6-inch long floral wire with wire cutters.
Bend one of the wires in half and twist the loose ends together. Pull the sides apart slightly to form an oval shape. Form ovals with the rest of the wires in the same way.
Pull the coloured nylon stocking over the wire oval from the folded end down towards the twisted end. Hold the stocking so it is pulled tightly around the oval.
Wrap nylon thread around the base of the oval where the stocking is being held. Cut the thread's tails away with scissors once the stocking is secure.
Cover each oval with nylon and wrap it in place with nylon thread.
Bend the end of a piece of floral wire with pliers to form a small hook.
Fold two coloured stamens in half so there are four coloured tips next to each other.
Place the hook of the floral wire around the bend in the stamens and wrap nylon thread around the stamens to secure them to the wire.
Arrange four of the ovals around the tied portion of the stamens. The tied, twisted ends of the ovals should be pointing up and should lay right against the tied stamens.
Tie the ovals in place with the thread and place the other four on top of them in the same way. Use plenty of thread to make sure the ovals are fixed securely.
Wrap the area tied with thread around the ovals with floral tape that coordinates in colour to the stocking.
Bend the ovals upward to form "petals" around the stamens and trim the floral wire stem to the desired length.
Tips and warnings
- Use differently coloured stockings in the same flower for a colourful, interesting bloom.
- Do not use stockings with runs or pilling on them--they will cause your flowers to come apart.
