  1. 1

Choose the colour you want. If you want your cheerleader costume to represent a certain team, you need to make your costume the colour of the team. If you have no preference and just want a costume, pick a colour you like.

  2. 2

Look for a shirt and skirt combination that is the same colour as the colour you want for your costume. The shirt can be a T-shirt, tank top or long-sleeve shirt. The skirt should be the same colour as your top to make the best-looking cheerleading outfit. If you are modelling your cheerleading outfit off that of an existing team, buy a shirt and skirt combination similar to that team.

  3. 3

Represent your team. Decide what team you are the cheerleader for and cut a letter, team name or mascot out of construction paper. Attach this to your shirt with tape or with safety pins.

  4. 4

Wear athletic shoes. Cheerleaders are athletic and very active during a game. In order to give the appearance that you are a cheerleader, you have to wear some form of sneakers.

  5. 5

Make your pom-poms. Pom-poms are essential to a cheerleader costume and can be made with construction paper. Cut pieces of construction paper into long strips and attach them to a short stick with tape to complete the costume.

  6. 6

Create a megaphone by rolling up a piece of paper into a cone. Tape the paper to together and you will have a megaphone.
