Kids just love superheroes - and when it comes to superheroes, you can't get any more super than the Justice League. This group of heroes includes all-time favourites Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, aka "the big three". The version made familiar by the recent TV series starts out with a core group that also includes the Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, The Flash and Martian Manhunter, but eventually expands to include just about every hero in the DC Universe.
- Skill level:
- Moderately Easy
Things you need
- The ability to tell DC from Marvel superheroes
- Justice League (or any DC superhero) party supplies
- Dress-up items
- Costumed helpers (optional)
- JL-themed cake
- Superman or Batman pinata (optional)
- Goodie bags with JL toys or school supplies
- JL temporary tattoos
Scout out Justice League-themed party decorations like tablecloths, plates, cups, party hats and noisemakers. Use items featuring the entire League (or a selection of members) if you can, but if these are hard to find, you can certainly mix and match - a Superman table cloth, Batman napkins, Wonder Woman cups, etc.
Welcome your party guests with an assortment of superhero dress-up items. You can purchase inexpensive Superman, Batman, and even Wonder Woman capes and Green Lantern rings, or you can make your own homemade versions of these and other items like Wonder Woman's lasso, the Green Arrow's bow and arrow, and Hawkgirl's mace.
See if you can enlist teen or adult helpers to dress up in superhero costumes. The masked heroes like Batman and The Flash may be easier to pull off than trying to pass off "Superman" with Uncle Morty's face.
Plan a "Super Menu" featuring items such as Batman burgers, Superdogs, Wonder Woman wings, Flash fries, Green Lantern green grapes, Hawkgirl hummus, or Martian Manhunter milkshakes. To create a Justice League birthday cake you can purchase a variety of superhero cake toppers, or you can use small plastic figures of all of your favourite heroes to create your own scene on top of the cake.
Organise a couple of superhero-themed games such as "Pin the Cape on Superman/Batman" or a variant on hunt the thimble using the Green Lantern's ring. You should also be able to find pinatas shaped like Superman's and Batman's logos.
Provide goody bags for all of your guests filled with inexpensive Justice League toys or school supplies. Temporary tattoos are also a popular party favour, and kids may enjoy selecting and then wearing their favourite JL character.
Tips and warnings
- If you live near a Six Flags amusement park, many of them carry a good selection of Justice League-themed merchandise
- When you're mixing and matching superheroes, be sure to avoid using heroes from the Marvel universe, i.e. Spiderman, Iron Man, and The Hulk
