How to buy a watters dress

Of all the dresses a woman buys in her lifetime, there are few that will hold the distinctive memories of choosing a wedding gown.

Watters dresses come in styles for the entire bridal party; the bride, the bridesmaids, the junior bridesmaids, and the flower girls.

The California-based, Thai-born Vatana Watters' designs are often described as elegant and fashionable, high-quality at what is considered much more affordable than "celebrity"-worn designer wedding and formal gowns.

Instructions

  1. 1

    The Watters Style

Visit their website (http://watters.com) for the latest styles, including wedding dresses, bridesmaids dresses, speciality gowns and even maternity gowns.

This will give you an idea of the current collections. If you are choosing a bridal gown or bridesmaid's dress or any other formal wear from Watters, make a note of the gown style number, and print out a picture of the gowns that you like.

  2. 2

    See the Dress/es "In Person"

The Watters' website also features a store locator. Find one near you. It's always a very good idea to see the actual dress/es that interest you.

    Try Dresses On

Try on the styles that you like. A sample dress will rarely fit as well as the final product, but it will give you the basic form of the gown and how and if it flatters you. Unlike many other bridal gown companies, Watters dresses reportedly are more in line with "regular" dress sizes (at other dress companies, a woman who wears a size 10 may find herself wearing a size 16).

  4. 4

Decide What Elements Look Best on You

Either take notes yourself or have someone else jot down notes for you. The strapless gown may look great on the model, but does the dress give you what celebrity blogger Perez Hilton calls "side boobs"? Is it the nature of the dress and your body or is the sample too tight? Whatever the case, unless you are in a tremendous rush and must get the dress ASAP, come back for a second "try-on," if at all possible.

Note: Some Watters' fashions are available at bridal shops for "immediate delivery," meaning the shop has it in stock; others will have to be custom ordered.

  5. 5

    Measurements

Once you have chosen the dress of your dreams, you must be sure you have the proper measurements. Watters recommends that you hire a professional seamstress to take your measurements (an authorised Watters' retailer will do, too). Be sure measurements are taken over undergarments for a more precise measurement.

  6. 6

    The Actual Gown

The style of the gown will often determine size as different silhouettes fit various body types. If measurements fall between two sizes, the larger measurement must be considered first as well as the style ordered.

Tips and warnings

  • Watters appreciates an elegant embellishment and also offers brooches, ribbons, flowers, and wraps.
  • While you may be optimistic that you're going to diet until your wedding day, don't overestimate your weight loss. It is actually easier to take a dress in than to let one out.
