How to Section Short Hair for Curling

Short, curly hair is supposed to appear untamed and a bit wild. However, short curly hair also needs to be controlled by sectioning. It's easy to increase the overall volume of curly hair. Sections of short curly hair are styled with varied techniques.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Apply some spray wax to your palms and use your body warmth and some moisture to emulsify it. Run your fingers through the curly hair and sculpt the curls.

  2. Step 2

Hold the hair out from the head at a 145 degree angle. This acute angle allows the curl to be pulled to its fullest extent. Keep the hair taut while working on the curl. This will define the major sections of the hair.

  3. Step 3

Brush down the hair using a teasing brush or comb. This gives the hair volume and defines the area of the smaller sections of the hair style. The teasing brush can also increase the curliness of the ends of the hair.

  4. Step 4

Pull the hair up and forward to section the hair towards the front of the face. Back comb the hair down and to the rear to control it along the contours of the head.

  5. Step 5

Spray a moderate amount of hair treatment onto the hair. The goal of the finishing spray is to give short curly hair a fuller look and further increase the volume. This also unifies the various sections of the hair.
