Chibi are a small, simplified version of manga or anime characters, often with exaggerated proportions and cute poses. They're frequently used to represent the artist in manga or to provide small joke panels at the end. Drawing chibi, particularly girls, is a good way to experiment with personalities and accessories for your characters.
- Skill level:
Draw an over-sized head for your chibi girl. In general, it should be about twice as big as a normal head.
Add features to your chibi girl's head. The eyes and mouth should be larger than normal, with the eyes usually closed and the mouth open although this is up to you.
Construct a simple body for your chibi. You don't need to add hands or feet or define muscles, just draw the general shape of the limbs and torso. The key to this is to keep the body simple.
Draw in your chibi girl's details, such as hair, clothing and accessories. This includes shoes and any objects held in her hands. Keep the items simple; you don't even have to draw in fingers.
Give your chibi a specific message by adding speech bubbles, text or hand gestures that capture attention. Some artists use chibis as a way to insert note into their comics.
Color your chibi girl with colored pencils, paint, pastel or anything else you like. Just make sure the paper can support the medium you choose.
