How to Build a Grocery End Display With Canned Goods

The great thing about using canned goods to build an end display is that, if they do happen to get knocked over, it's not the end of the world. Sure, you may have a few dented cans, but you won't have a glass nightmare and tomato sauce across the floor. Thus you can build more elaborate structures with cans, but don't go completely crazy: you still have to think about the safety of customers.

Things You'll Need:

  • A supply of canned product
  • An exacto knife or box cutter
  1. Step 1

Build your base. One common way is to start with unopened boxes and place them in the perimeter of what you want your display to be, as a "foundation".

  2. Step 2

Build up. Lots of times, stockers cut boxes open in front with a box cutter to display only the fronts of the product, while the box still provides stability for the structure.

  3. Step 3

Expose the product to the customer by the time the display gets up to your average eye level. Make sure the customer has a way to grab the product without other cans falling down on him/her.

  4. Step 4

Experiment with fun structures. Pyramids, walls, and "rod" type stacks are ways to make a canned goods display unique. You can actually build these from the ground up (a little more challenging, and more of a hassle to clean up and restock later) or you can build them on top of the existing foundation.

  5. Step 5

Hang appropriate signage for advertising. Hang it where the customers can see it, but not where they'll be reaching for the product. Decorate your end display for maximum appeal to customers, and make any discounts or other offers prominent.
