    Plan ahead. How long do you plan to be out camping? When do you want to camp?

    Once you have determined when you will go camping at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, consider what type of campground you will need--drive-in or backcountry. Research your options depending on which area you want to camp in.

    Pack for your trip. Only bring as much gear, food, water and clothing as you will need to have available.

    If you are planning for drive-up camping, head to the park. Select an available camp site. The same holds if you are camping in the backcountry. Hike to an available site.
