How to connect a PS3 remote to a MacBook Pro

Most people use the Sony PlayStation 3 remote controller solely to play PS3 games. However, you can also use the wireless controller with your Apple MacBook Pro. Both devices are Bluetooth enabled, so you can connect them wirelessly. Once you've done that, you can us your PS3 controller to play most games available for the Apple MacBook Pro from the Apple Store, although some games may have limited functionality due to compatibility issues.

  • MacBook Pro's Bluetooth four-digit pass key

    Switch on your MacBook Pro and place it no further than three metres (10 feet) from your PS3.

    Turn on your PS3 remote and go to "Settings." Select "Accessory Settings" then "Manage Bluetooth Devices." Click “Set Up New Device.” A prompt asks if you want to register a new device, select "Yes."

    Click "Start Scanning" and your PS3 will show other Bluetooth devices in range including your MacBook Pro. Click on MacBook in the Bluetooth devices list. Enter your MacBook Pro's Bluetooth four-digit pass key to complete the action. You can now use your PS3 controller with your MacBook Pro.
