How to darken skin with coffee

Updated July 19, 2017

Save money on expensive tanning products and avoid the dangers of frequent exposure to direct sunlight by using a combination of coffee and olive oil to achieve that all-over bronzed appearance. By using coffee and olive oil together, your newly tanned skin will shine with a sun-kissed finish that also helps rid the body of unwelcome cellulite. The caffeine in coffee grounds promotes natural tanning in sunlight so a light application of this homemade recipe provides the perfect solution for looking great on the first few days of an overseas holiday.

Mix a medium sized cup of freshly used coffee grounds, while they are still warm, with up to two tbsp of olive oil. Use an old bowl for mixing and discard of it afterwards if the grounds cause staining. Mix the two constituents together thoroughly, using a spoon, until they merge together to form a bronze coloured paste.

Prepare your body for application of the paste by taking a hot shower to open the pores. Ensure your skin is completely clean and remember to rinse thoroughly to rid the body of any soap or shower gel that might compromise an evenly tanned appearance. Dry yourself thoroughly with a towel, removing all traces of water.

Place sheets of old newspaper liberally on the floor to avoid the risk of staining tiles, floorboards or carpet during application. Put on a pair of clean disposable latex gloves and scoop a small amount of the mixed paste from the bowl. Apply the paste sparingly all over the body, using the assistance of a friend you won’t feel embarrassed in front of to help with unreachable areas such as the back.

Rub in the coffee and olive oil paste thoroughly using a circular motion for even distribution. Wrap any areas of your body affected by cellulite in plastic wrapping film. Run a rolling pin over the external surface of the film to stretch the skin for several minutes. Remove the film and continue massaging the remaining paste into the body until you achieve uniform coverage.

Leave the coffee and olive oil paste to absorb into the skin for ten minutes. Check your body in a full-length mirror for areas you may have missed. Ask your friend to inspect your body as well for signs of any light areas. Take a second warm shower after 10 minutes to remove the paste, taking time to admire the wonderfully smooth feel of your newly tanned skin.

Tip

Spray a light application of olive oil to the skin after the final shower for improved smoothness and softness. To reduce cellulite further, drink plenty of water to flush toxins and broken-up fat deposits from the body.
