"Airport Enhancement Services" or "AES" is an add-on pack for the flight simulator game "Microsoft Flight Simulator X." It adds a number of features designed to make the simulation more realistic, including animated gates, service vehicles and water or snow on the runway. The "AES" base pack is free to download from German company Aerosoft, but credits must be bought in order to run the modules for certain airports.

  1. 1

Download the latest version of the "AES" base pack from the Aerosoft website. The current version is 2.30, as of April 2013. You can also buy credits, although the modules will still work for some airports without them.

  2. 2

Right-click the downloaded file and select "Extract All." Double-click the folder containing the extracted files. Read the licence agreement then double-click the file that ends in ".exe" to begin the installation. The exact name of the file will vary depending on the version of "AES."

  3. 3

Select the language for the installation. Click "OK" then "Next." Click the tick-box to agree with the terms of the licence agreement.

  4. 4

Click the radio button next to "Microsoft Flight Simulator X." The installation will begin. Click "Finish" when the installation is complete.

  5. 5

Launch "Microsoft Flight Simulator X." A pop-up box will ask if you want to designate "AES" as "trusted software." Select "Yes" to automatically load "AES" whenever you start "Microsoft Flight Simulator X." You can access the "AES" main menu from within the game by "Control + Shift + W."
