Tagging your friends and family in Facebook comments makes it clear exactly who you're talking about, preventing confusion. Additionally, people tagged in a comment are automatically alerted of the fact with a notification, giving them a chance to join in the conversation. To tag somebody in a comment, you need to prefix his name with a specific symbol in order to activate a contextual drop-down menu. When you successfully tag somebody, his name is highlighted in blue in the comment entry field and turns into a link once the comment is posted.

    Type the "@" symbol, without quotes.

    Start typing the name of the person you want to tag. A drop-down menu will appear, showing matching results for people, pages and other Facebook content, such as games and apps.

    Click the person's name to tag him.
