Churches can use banners to advertise fund-raising events, get-togethers, or to announce a special service. A church can create banners for free using a print-on-demand company, such as CafePress (see Resources), that does not charge a fee for uploading design, printing set-up, or processing. Free accounts at CafePress allow up to 50 different design uploads and charge nothing to post them onto banners and signs. Here is an easy way to create free church banners through CafePress.
Download a free version of Adobe Photoshop. Web sites such as Soft32 (see Resources) offer a quick downloadable free Photoshop program. Simply go to the Adobe Photoshop page for Soft32, and click on the link near the top that says "Download Photoshop." The program will begin to install on your computer immediately.
Start Photoshop and then open a new file by clicking the word "File" at the top of the Photoshop screen. Then, select "New" from the drop-down list. A pop-up window will ask you to choose dimensions for the file. Make the width 42 inches, and the height 28 inches. The resolution should be at least 300 DPI, which means Dots Per Inch. When you have filled in the dimensions of your image, click "OK."
Write the text onto the image. Select the "Text" icon from the tool box, which appears as a large "T" in the vertical window located on the right side of the screen. Hold down the left mouse button, and click and drag a marquee box onto your image. This is where your text will go. Release the mouse button, and click inside the box to begin typing your text. To change the look of the text, such as colour or size, click on the text adjustment tool at the top of the screen.
Save the image file on your computer by clicking on "File" and then selecting "Save As" from the drop-down list. A window will appear asking you to name your file. Type any name you wish, and save your file in "JPEG" or "JPG" format, and then click "OK."
Go to the main web page on CafePress, and register for a free account. When your registration is complete, click on the link that is called "My Shops" on the left side of the screen. After that page loads, click on your account. Then, click the link that is called "Manage Sections and Products." Load your image using the CafePress image loader, and select the items that you want to place your image on, such as a banner or a sign.
