Sofa Bed Styles and Varieties

Having a sofa bed in your living room can easily add extra bed space when needed and then fold up out of the way to serve as a comfortable sitting area the rest of the time. Whether your children are having a sleepover, or you have extra house guest for the holidays, you can offer your guests a comfortable bed in minutes without inconveniencing another family member to make room. If you live in a small apartment, a sofa bed can help conserve your space. Sofa beds are available in a variety of styles, sizes and fabrics to match your decor and the needs of your family. Sofa beds are available with beds from twin to queen sizes and some are even very comfortable as well as stylish.

Transforming Your Sofa Bed

You transform the traditional sofa bed by first removing the seat cushions. Once the seat cushions are off, you should see a metal bar across the length of the folded bed frame inside the sofa. Face the sofa, lift the metal bar and pull it towards yourself (away from the sofa). As the bed frame comes up, out of base of the sofa, a support bar should drop down onto the floor. The bed is now half open, like the one in the picture. Walk around to the side of the exposed bed frame and lift the folded end of the bed. As you lift the foot end of the bed, another support bar should drop down. Set the support bar of the foot of the bed gently to the floor. If your sofa bed is the futon style, simply pull the base towards yourself until the back of the futon is lying flat creating a bed.

Making Your Sofa Bed

The mattress construction is similar to that of a typical bed enabling the use regular fitted sheets. When you awake, simply remove your bedding, lift the foot of the bed, and fold it over in half, the support bar should fold automatically. Lift the remaining portion of the bed and push it towards the base of the sofa gently. The bed should slip down into the base easily due to the connected four-section design of the folding frame. Replace the seat cushions onto the sofa.
